If you come by to Nha Trang to play casino games, tease chicks in the Sailing Club, or dive, it’s fine. But if you’re rock-addicted, it’s sure that your hands will sweat when you will see these granite boulders defying the sea on the Hon Chong promontory. This video archive was shot in Winter 2007, which explains the lack of sun. Thanks to the xe ôm drivers for spotting and shooting!
Hon Chong Promontory is located in the North of Nha Trang, about 4 kms from the center. To get there, take the main seafront street (Tran Phu) to the North, then Pham Van Dong. After a few km, you will see Hon Chong Promontory on the East side.
Nha Trang in a glimpse
Number of problems: about 10 obvious and natural lines
Grades: 4B –>projects
Rock quality: good granite
Reception: rock, crashpad is advised
Boulder 1 & 2 : these 2 boulders are just on the right after a suspended egg-shaped boulder between 2 boulders.
Problem 1, 4C: follow the good finger crack
Problem 2, 5A: dynamic move on good slopers, then stand up high to top out
Problem 3, 5A: left-right traverse. Start on slopers, then climb on a fragile flake.
Problem 4, 4B: left-right traverse. Follow the underclings then top out with good holds
Project 1: stand up with a bad undercling then reach a worst flat hole
Boulder 4: the King Boulder, just in front of the sea
Problem 5, 5B: no foot start, then follow the good notches
Project 2: start in the right of the legendary Giant Fingerprint, then climb up left
Project 3: follow the flat crack (left-right) then long reach in direction to good notches
There is a massive potential on each side of the road which follows the sea coast. The point is to get there most of time (jungle crossing), and they’re a bit far apart from each others. However, there is sometimes amazing stuff!
